Garching, Germany – The Gathering expertise On Vibration ImpaKt In Nuclear power Generation project, in short GO-VIKING, had its official kick-off meeting from the 30th of June to the 1st of July 2022. As part of the Euratom Research and Training Programme, GO-VIKING is the successor to the VIKING project and aims to improve the safety of contemporary reactors and the design evaluation of new models, as well as disseminate the results among nowadays and upcoming stakeholders, academics, and professionals in this field.
The project aims are particularly interesting as Nuclear Power Plants in Europe are ageing. Therefore, extending their lifetime provides the time for a faster transition to a low-carbon energy system.
Funded by the European Commission and launched on the 1st of June 2022, the GO-VIKING project’s coordinator, GRS gGmbH, organized a kick-off meeting in Garching, Germany, and gathered 18 partners from 9 countries. This marked the start of a 48-month project with world-leading nuclear experts and a wide range of stakeholders, who will contribute to the improvement of the design, operation, and safety of nowadays nuclear power plants and tomorrow’s designs.
